Turkey Pot-Pie (Dog Version)

Cook Time:

20+ minutes

Servings:

Level:

Medium

Ingredients

  • 5 tsp of sugar-free cranberry juice

  • ½ cup (30 g / ~30 kcal) raw baby green peas

  • ½ cup whole wheat flour

  • 2 eggs (1 beaten and 1 for egg wash)

  • 2 cups (200 g / ~60 kcal) raw green beans

  • 2 cups (340 g / ~240 kcal) raw sweet potato

  • 2½ cups (300 g / ~600 kcal) raw turkey breast

  • 2½ cups (330 g / ~127 kcal) raw carrots

  • 5+ cups water

Optional seasonings:

  • 1 tsp ground ginger

  • 2 tsp turmeric

  • 2 tsp dried dill weed

 Preparation

1. Preheat oven to 350°F / 177°C

2. Begin boiling veggies:

  • (Optional): Add seasonings to 4 cups of water in a large pot. Stir well

  • Bring 4 cups of water to a boil in a large pot

  • Once rapidly boiling, add the raw sweet potato

  • Cover with a lid and reduce heat to medium

3. Carefully add the turkey after ~15 minutes. Replace lid and keep heat on medium

4. Stir in remaining veggies after ~5 minutes. Replace lid and keep heat

5. Wash your hands thoroughly—time to start on the dough!

6. Make the Dough:

  • Mix flour, 1 beaten egg, and 1 cup water in a large bowl. Dough should be slightly sticky

  • Roll dough out on a floured surface until thin and stretchy. Set aside

7. Finish filling:

  • Remove pot from heat. Optional: add 5 tsp sugar-free cranberry juice (adds antioxidants and dog-safe “sherry”)

  • Shred pot contents so that the mixture is chunk-free

8. Assemble Pot Pie:

  • Scoop pot contents into an oven-safe bowl, leaving ½ inch of space at the top

  • Store leftover filling in the fridge (up to 5 days) or freezer (up to 1 month).

9. Prepare Dough Topping:

  • Lightly brush the top with a beaten egg to help prevent burning

  • Prick the rolled dough a few times with a fork (to help cook thoroughly)

  • Optional Pre-Bake Tip 🧑‍🍳: Partially pre-bake crust on a baking sheet for 5-7 minutes

  • Drape the dough over the bowl as a crust.

10. Bake pie for 20 minutes, or until crust is fully cooked through
