Small Animal Recipes

Blueberry Breakfast Bowl

Cook Time:

10 Minutes

Serves:

1 Serving

Level:

Beginner

Ingredients

  • 1/4 Tablespoon of zero-sugar peanut butter

  • 1/4 Cup of blueberries (set aside a small handful for decoration)

  • 1 serving size of your dog's commercial dry food** (set aside a quarter of it for separate blending to make a "granola")

  • 1/2 Cup of goat's milk* (may need more depending on your preferred texture)

  • 1 egg

*Use goat's milk for puppies and adult dogs who need higher levels of protein and fat. If this does not apply to your dog, replace the goat's milk with water. Ask your vet if this recipe is safe for your pet.

Note: This recipe was made for an active, 50 lb adult dog. With 1 cup of her commerical dry food, the smoothie base came out to be the texture of firm, wet dog food. Since this recipe is based off a unit of 1 cup, if you're using a different amount, to maintain the same ratio, either multiply or divide the rest of the ingredients proportionally to one. For example, if your dog normally eats 2 cups of food per meal, double the rest of the ingredients- use 1/2 tablespoon of peanut butter, 1 cup of goat's milk, etc. If your dog normally eats 1/2 cup of food per meal, divide the ingredients in half. For example, use 1/8 tablespoon of peanutbutter, 1/4 cup of goat's milk, etc. The egg ratio can stay the same if your ratios are decreasing.

Preparation

  1. In a food processor, blend together the blueberries, the commercial dog food, goat's milk, and peanut butter until smooth. Add more or less goat's milk to make the texture creamier or firmer respectively.

  2. Pour out the smoothie base into your dogs bowl. In the same food processor, crumble the quarter of dog food that was set aside to make a "granola". Blend until your desired texture.

  3. Decorate the smoothie base with the "granola" and blueberries that were set aside.

  4. In a non-stick pan, fry an egg in water on high heat. Once the whites are cooked all the way through, remove from heat and add on top of the smoothie base.

  5. Be sure to let the egg cool before feeding to your dog.
